I organized a Christmas filled-stocking drive for the children that live in the community of Thomasville. The donation drive was conducted over a two month period. Advertised via social media, the drive sparked interest from many different areas and people. With the help of everyone, we were able to come together and raise 110 joy-filled stocking to the children. The stockings were filled with toys, personal hygiene products, and candy. It filled my heart with joy that I could help these children, who for some the stocking would be the only thing they received for the holiday. Around the time of Halloween, I was discussing with the kids what they wanted to be for Halloween. I discovered the majority of them did not know because many of their parents were not able to purchase them one. I decided to do a last minute costume drive. The site I was visiting at the time, Forest Cove, was a smaller community. This helped in the fact that I only had three weeks to gather enough

"Two and a half years ago, while living in mainland China, my wife and I were fostering a little orphan named, Guo Ru Hao... with the hope to one day adopt her.  It had been two long years with her living with us and we were at a standstill on many fronts.  Her orphanage wouldn't release necessary paperwork for us to adopt her and we didn't know why.  The device in Ruthi's head to help her cerebrospinal fluid flow was malfunctioning.  There was another fire in a foster home in China and the government was requiring all orphanages to call in the kids (meaning Ruthi was in danger of being taken away from us).  I was at the end of my rope.  One day, while driving down the road, I asked Ruthi what her name was.  Her Chinese name, Guo Ru Hao, was the name she heard most often as we had to use that name on all paperwork.  So she was accustomed to hearing that name...and saying it.  However, on this day, when I asked her what her name was, she proclaimed, "Ruth El

"I was in the house when the bullet came through the door. It scraped me in my side and I had to get stitches. My twin brother had been sitting on the couch. After it scraped me, it hit him in the head. I remember running when five more hit him in his chest. It was happening right there in front of my face. I ran to him and he ended up dying in my arms. He opened his eyes and then boom that was it. I've seen things like that happen in the movies. I never knew it'd happen to us."

"The scariest moment of my life was probably the first time I got shot at. One night, my family and I were coming home. We lived in an apartment complex. I had a free apartment because I was security for that complex. As we were getting out of the car, I heard the gun shots. But then I saw them hitting the wall. When I realized where they were, I was really scared because my wife at the time and my infant son was right there. It was hitting the wall right by them. Thank God they didn't get hit. I was able to get them around the side of the building. I turned around and gave chase. A friend of mine was coming in at the same time.”

"This guy started approaching me, and I started thinking, 'Oh okay, he's just walking.' No, he was coming at me. I look at his waist and he has a gun showing, and he has tattoos on his face. I was raised where anyone with tattoos on their face has got to be really tough. I thought, 'Oh crap, he is about to turn any minute.' He comes at me and I think I peed a little, I was scared, no joke. He looks at me and goes, 'Yo you the dude that prays for people?' I said, 'I don't think I'm THE dude but I'm a dude that prays for people.' He said, 'No, but you're the little white dude that prays for people.' I'm like, 'Oh yeah, that is definitely me.' He said, 'Cool you're gonna pray for me real quick.' I was still scared so I wasn't sure where to put my arm. I didn't want to be awkward or get shot. I just laid my hand casually on his shoulder and started to pray. I was kinda at a loss for wor
